"Roll up, roll up! Join the greatest crew in the Fifteen Galaxies and have amazing adventures in space!"
— Quilton Every great space adventurer needs a loyal servant to tell their tales of dashing heroism to the adoring peons back home: Cordaver Bosh absconded with the only literate denizen of the harem of Volzsur the Never-Living; the wandering minstrel Jow-y-Gethin sang tales of the bravery of "Chancer" Huggins until his tongue was accidentally zapped into a parallel dimension; and the definitely fantastical and possibly fabricated adventures of Captain Dashworth are penned by Quilton of London Town.
A seedy writer based in the sprawling city of London and a subject of the British Empire, Quilton wheels and deals throughout the great capital, selling everything from manuscripts and cart horses to his own mother's boots, and usually earns himself enough pretty pennies to establish a tab in several local knocking shops. Armed with an oily manner and a failed degree in journalism, Quilton struck up a friendship with Dashworth and serves as his patron during the great hero's attempts to launch into adventure. Penning the ripping yarns featured in Dashworth's extraordinary adventure stories known as Penny Amazings, Quilton entered into a publishing deal with Plinkington's (an establishment maintaining a reputation several fathoms above Quilton's own). He rounds up a baying audience keen for more tales of derring-do, and the seedy writer has earned some measure of fame among the peons of London as Dashworth's heroic deeds become known to the universe-at-large. |
